About Me

Jordon Oliver is a Sociology undergrad and a member of the University of California, Santa Barbara’s (UCSB) writing program, as a professional writing minor in the civic engagement track. He will be graduating from the University in spring 2017 and is currently in preparation to transition to his next phase in life. He will be leaving UCSB with a socially conscious mind, aware of intersectional connections and varying social theories. This information is complemented with his strengths in writing, giving him the tools to actively participate in public discourse.

As a professional writing minor he has been exposed to many different forms of writing. This includes writing explainer pieces, policy briefs, marketing material, short stories, persuasive essays, letters and more. The next step for Mr. Oliver will be to capitalize on his interests that align with his academic experiences. He has begun to receive some experiences through his current internships. He currently is working for the Channel Islands YMCA as a grant writing intern. Here he helps raise money supporting the Y’s mission through researching and composing grants. He also works with the UCSB Campus Planning & Design department, shadowing the planners and assisting in research and writing. After graduation he will be seeking further work experiences to further his professional goals in preparation for an advanced degree at graduate school.

As a native of California, Mr. Oliver has lived in both northern and southern California, but his hometown is in the East Bay in the city of Brentwood, California. Growing up here he enjoyed trips to San Francisco, playing basketball for his high school team and walking his dog. He currently is a travel and music enthusiast, and loves new experiences. Although his next chapter in life is undetermined, his confident and collective demeanor will propel him to success in his next calling.
